Kavanaugh’s Resort, a labor of love for the Kavanaugh family, has been a staple on the shore of Sylvan Lake in Brainerd, Minnesota, for over 55 years. When Sherman and Mae Kavanaugh acquired the property in 1969, they saw enormous potential in the nine housekeeping cabins and 1,000 feet of shoreline. Their commitment was evident as they moved into the owner’s residence during the off-season and tirelessly upgraded the property.
Classic Cookie Co. has been a family-run staple in the skyway of what is now the CenturyLink Building for 40 years. All of the recipes are baked fresh from old tried-and-true family recipes.
When Dayton’s expanded to Saint Paul in 1959, they took over Schuneman’s department store and its popular dining room, the River Room.
Pam and Dick Thorsen purchased a Second Empire style home in Hastings and converted it into one of the most popular bed and breakfasts in the state. Sadly, a fire damaged the building in December 2017 and the inn closed permanently.
